This is the website for the New Generation Space project.

The new generation space project offers artists of all ages and abilities the chance to expand their, experience, knowledge, and creativity, through a series of varied workshops, seminars and excursions. The project aims to develop a greater understanding of how art works in the world around us, and how it can improve environments we inhabit.

The project is open to everyone to take part in although the spaces available for some activities will be limited. The programme of activities will include practical activities, seminars with high profile art practitioners, and public talks giving examples of best practice.

Introducing: The New Generation Space Project

The New Generation Space project offers artists of all ages and abilities the chance to expand their, experience, knowledge, and creativity, through a series of varied workshops, and seminars. The project aims to develop a greater understanding of how art works in the world around us, and how it can improve environments we inhabit.

The project is open to everyone to take part in although the spaces available for some activities will be limited. The programme of activities will include practical activities, seminars with high profile art practitioners, and public talks giving examples of best practice.

We want the project to be inspirational and informative, and enable people with a range of experience to engage with the project. The project has been divided into a number of themes

  • Making Art: we will cover some of the issues that artist find when they are making work such as; how to respond to a brief when applying for commissions, different areas that artists can find work, and some of the legal aspects of making art.
  • Showing Art: will look at the various ways in which you can show your work such as, through gallery exhibitions, and how to build up a portfolio.
  • Art and Community: will look at the ways in which art give benefit to and benefit from working in a community, this will look at the role art has to play in education, best practice for artists, and the role of art in regeneration and social contexts.
  • Curatorship: curatorship is an interesting and developing area of the arts and covers a broad range of subject areas, including the artist as the curator, working with groups of artists and developing relationships with galleries.

The first series of activities will take place between April and June:

  • 23rd April-          Project Launch and a-n Paper Shredder Event
  • 14th May-          Seminar and Workshop on Responding to Artists Briefs
  • 17th May-          Workshop looking at Developing a Portfolio
  • 28th May-          Seminar looking at examples of best practice
  • 4th June-          Portfolio Review session in the morning, then a seminar looking at artistic practice and legal issues.

Bursaries

We are very lucky to be able to offer the opportunity for 20 artists to apply for a bursary. The bursary is of a maximum £100 and is intended to be a helping hand for emerging artists. The bursary can be spent any way you wish as long as it helps to develop your practice. Applications need to be made for this opportunity, and will be selected by the project leaders.
